Welcome to the website of the Weymouth Lifeboat Station
My name is Andrew Sargent, 15 th Coxswain at Weymouth Lifeboat Station since it opened in 1869. In 1999 I became the first full-time employed Coxswain at Weymouth Lifeboat Station. We are one of the busiest Lifeboat stations on the coast, undertaking around 100 ‘shouts’ a year, split equally between ‘Ernest and Mabel’ (Severn class Lifeboat) and ‘Phyl Clare III’ (Atlantic 75) covering 1330 square nautical miles. Like every Lifeboat Station in the UK and Ireland we are run and funded by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, an organisation funded entirely through voluntary contributions.
We have a full time mechanic , Hefin Roberts (sometimes the mechanic is also the Coxswain), and 24 volunteer crew who are all on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our ‘shouts’ range from rescuing wind/kite surfers to pleasure craft and fishing vessels, to merchant ships colliding in the English Channel.
The station also has a very active Fundraising and PR team, and I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank them all for their dedication, hard work and commitment, without which the crew and myself would not have a Lifeboat to go to sea with. You will find a list of the fundraising events on the site.
I trust you will find this site informative, useful and enjoyable, if you have any observations, comments or ideas please feel free to contact us (link within the site). Likewise if you would like to volunteer to assist in fundraising (rattle a tin for an hour an year) or make a donation of any amount (to buy a drink pack or a new boat at £2 million) then all donations are greatly received.
